Here's the lowdown on Derek Carson DDS and his lifelong journey.

If you haven’t had the pleasure, or privilege, of being treated by Derek Carson DDS, you’re missing out on a great experience … even if you are having a dental procedure.

This man is nothing short of an amazing person. You can/should read his bio and view other images while here (click the link), but I’m going to share with you the long and the short of what makes him special.

Yes, I am the practice marketing guy, but I’m also a long-time patient of the Carson family, so I’m telling this story in the first person … because it not only walks you through Dr. Derek’s journey, but I am sharing with you my own personal experiences and observations.

Derek never stops moving. When it’s time for work, it’s all about providing the best care for his patients … utilizing over 20 years of experience, expert mentorship and training from his father, Dr. LeRoy Carson, and the latest technology and cutting edge dental techniques available. Derek acknowledges: “The only work day I have missed in 20 years when one of my children was born.”

He is also an accomplished tennis player … having received a tennis scholarship to the University of Akron (Ohio), before completing his undergraduate degree at Arizona State University. After attaining his DDS degree at the University of California (San Francisco), he became qualified for his Conscious Oral Sedation license at USC School of Dentistry, as he is a firm believer in making each patient’s experience as anxiety-free and painless as possible.

He’s a lifelong resident of Camarillo … having played football at Rio Mesa High School in Oxnard. Derek’s passion for sports continues … as he likes to play golf among his other past-times. More importantly, he relishes spending as much time as he can with his wife, Keila, and teaching his two children, Kate and Nicholas, tennis. Years later, the love of tennis is still in his blood.

My own experience with the Carsons started maybe 5-6 years ago when I faced a dental emergency with a broken tooth. I’m one of those scaredy cats who gets nervous simply in anticipation of a dental procedure.

As a newcomer to the area, I needed a dentist and did a web search and found that the Carsons offered IV Sleep Sedation. I was in heaven. I made an appointment and Dr. LeRoy did a quick fix and scheduled me for a permanent solution … with sedation, naturally.

But I had a problem. With sleep sedation you have to have a ride home, and I didn’t. After the procedure, Dr. Derek was kind enough to drive me home. Not only was my dental experience awesome, but I was blown away by him going above and beyond to take me home. I caution you … don’t get your hopes up. He’s far too busy these days doing what he does best to offer rides.

The essence of this story is about Derek’s character and compassion/caring for his patients.

He multi-tasks well without sacrificing his caring for patients or the standard of care. While the majority of his time is spent at the Oxnard location, he and his partner Dr. Mike Acasio, split their time at their Spanish Hills Dentistry practice in Camarillo.

Since I am part of his team, over the last couple of years I have been able to see him in action and how he manages the practice. When he is on the front line, he’s all about business … while he goes overboard to make one comfortable, there is no time for idle chit chat. So, if you come to Carson and Acasio expecting a lengthy conversation like you might expect from a psychologist, or your favorite bartender, you will be disappointed. LOL.

That said, he will spend whatever time is necessary to listen to your concerns, and answer any questions you may have, regarding your dental issues or treatments.

However, if you are looking for the best darned dental practice in Ventura County, you should come and pay us a visit. This story has been about Dr. Derek. That said, his partner Dr. Mike is also an exceptional dentist. I’ll share his story in a couple of weeks.

No matter which of our dentists treats you, rest assured from the time you walk in our door, until the time you leave, we will make you as comfortable as possible, resolve your dental needs, and put a smile on your face.

Whatever you think your dental needs are, you should give us a call for a free consultation. Our practice in Oxnard is Carson & Acasio Dentistry (805) 987-1711. In Camarillo, we do business as Spanish Hills Dentistry (805) 983-0717.
